About this place
Taishu Sakaba Chao! Nande, Ya Hibiya Fort Tower serves a range of dishes blending Asian and Italian influences, with hand-folded shumai at the heart of the menu. The shumai are folded individually in-house, and come in classic, spicy miso, Italian-style and okonomiyaki-inspired versions. Start with the classic at 4 pieces for 605 yen, then branch out to the more unusual varieties at 715 yen each for a table-friendly spread of different flavours. Meatballs are another house speciality; the menu lists a regular portion for 1,320 yen and a half portion for 770 yen. One diner also singled them out as a memorable order in a review.
The “Today’s Lucky Set Meal” changes daily. On one visit, it included small portions of shumai, char siu, fried chicken, chilli prawns and omelette. Diners are advised to ask staff what is included that day. One reviewer praised the shumai’s satisfying meatiness, the fried chicken’s light coating that went well with rice, and the chilli prawns for their restrained sweetness and heat. The set meal makes for a substantial lunch; in the evening, shumai and creative dishes offer a different way to enjoy a drink.
Drinks include the Dragon Highball, made with Shaoxing wine and brown sugar syrup, and an Italian Highball with lemon liqueur. These playful house combinations offer an alternative to pairing a drink with the classic shumai. The restaurant is on the 2th floor of Hibiya Fort Tower. It serves lunch on weekdays and is open in the evening from Monday to Friday.
